Concept and Rationale to Develop

Swaa Gamya is established to work on enhancing knowledge from both eastern and western world on various sectors like arts, culture, philosophy, entrepreneurship development and other pertinent issues, and buttress yoto revitalize the villages, and bring liveliness and exuberance in the rural life. It is likewise expected to bring happiness and joy in the life of elderly populations. Furthermore, the cenungsters to compete in the global arena from the remote rural spaces.

Why was it felt necessary ?

Vibrant, lively, and the most beautiful villages just three decades back are now apathetic, and arid due to various national and global implications and complications. Large section of the population of senior citizens, once the most productive in the arduous terrain, are now impotent, and almost left.

Young population migrate significantly to the city centers, and even far abroad seeking jobs, and financial wellbeing. Younger generation are forced to live in cities in the cover of providing better education to their kids. All these activities break the cycle of lively and vibrant village life. And, meanwhile our senior citizens live in misery in the villages. Those who could migrate to the city through their offspring’s financial wellbeing could not enjoy their life in the cities and suffering from depressions.

Likewise, schools in the villages are emptying with children from marginalized and oppressed class left. Well offs are have moved to the cities, and these kids are getting lesser attentions from government, and society thus creating the exclusive and improper citizens for future.

Traditional knowledge that mustered thousands years are now forgotten one. Indigenous knowledge of arts, crafts, life, medicines, music, and others are disappearing as new urban and meta culture dominating the entire society.

Goals and Objectives

  1. Establish recreational, educational, and luxurious well-facilitated senior citizen day center to make life of senior citizens of rural villages joyful, respectful, happy, and comfortable.
  2. Run a well-facilitated multidimensional hall and resource center; library and a small IT lab to train youths and children on various skills, and connect villages with the world.
  3. Preserve and promote indigenous knowledge on various life skills, arts, and culture and introduce foreign arts and skills to villagers through Arts and Culture Center.
  4. Conduct various trainings, seminars, and interactions related to education, health and arogya, gender, philosophy, arts and culture, environment and participate in knowledge productions.
  5. Integrate agriculture -through multidimensional and multi purpose farm established in the center – with education, tourism, and health/arogya and showcase a sustainable model of social business of its kind.
  6. Develop a model lab of ‘Shared Prosperity and Happiness’ through amalgam of indigenous, eastern, and western knowledge.

Philosophy

Compounding ‘Gamya’, from ancient Sanskrit language which means ‘…is attainable or reachable’, with  ‘Swaa’ from indigenous Gurung/Tamu language closely translates to happiness, joy  makes Swaa Gamya literally means “Happiness is Attainable or Reachable”. We are now talking about equitable society and community, fair and just world, environmentally and sustainably developed, and shared prosperity.

That is why, Swaa Gamya is an innovative lab of “Shared Prosperity and Happiness”.

Khushi in Nepali for Happiess is the last point of living a life with the highest pleasure, happiest moment, and peace of mind. The World Happiness Report (WHR) takes six key variables that support well-being: income, freedom, trust, healthy life expectancy, social support, and generosity.

Unbelievable physical and technological progress and financial well-being we attain are unable to satisfy us and bring peace in mind, happiness and joy. To shed light on the importance of happiness in our life, the United Nations celebrates International Day of Happiness on 20th March.

Swaa Gamya identifies benevolence; economic growth; health and healthy life; social support and inclusion; inspiration and innovation; equitable and just community; and knowledge as fundamental parameters of “Shared Prosperity and Happiness” and can be achieved through amalgamation of indigenous, eastern, and western knowledge.
